Steel Manufacturing Furnaces, Rolling Mills
IHI has constructed large blast furnaces, the symbols of steel mills, which have the capacity over 5,000 m3, and has developed the latest system in electric arc furnaces. IHI has also successfully developed and provided the first commercialized strip caster in the world, which contributes in energy saving and low CO2 emission, as well as low cost and less space. IHI is also supplying rolling mills and control systems for steel and nonferrous materials such as aluminum and copper.
Blast furnace
Blast furnaces are the symbols of steel mills. The height of large blast furnace plants with daily output of 10,000 tons is over 100m. Since 1941, IHI has built and relined over 90 blast furnace plants, which are now playing important roles not only in Japan but also in various countries such as Australia, Korea, Brazil, and Taiwan. IHI has also supplied over 25 bell-less top charging systems for feeding raw materials into these blast furnaces.

DC electric arc furnace
Electric arc furnaces produce steel, using scrap as raw material and have been supplied worldwide. A new furnace which significantly increases productivity by simultaneous preheating and feeding of raw material has been developed and available.
Plate mill facility
Plate mills produce steel plates with high accuracy in width, thickness and shape, which support the infrastructure such as shipbuilding, bridges and industrial machinery. IHI supplies various types including wide plate lines and compact lines for electric arc furnaces, in accordance with the requirements of the customers.
Strip caster
The strip caster is a revolutionary facility which can directly produce thin carbon steel sheets thinner than 2 mm by running molten steel through twin cooling rolls. Compared to the conventional thin steel sheet mill, because the milling process is much more less, the CO2 emission is 1/5, and the energy consumption is 1/9, making it an environment friendly facility. It is able to use low-grade scrap molten steel, making it also a resource friendly facility.
Hot strip mill
Hot strip mills feature high-speed continuous production of hot rolled steel strips of 1.2-25.4 mm in thickness. The Compact hot strip mill is one-half the length of a conventional line and has been supplied worldwide as well.
Nonferrous rolling mill
The aluminum hot strip mill equipped with TP rolls makes it possible to achieve excellent crown control, which is benefit for high accuracy and quality rolling. As for the rolling of copper foil, the X-mill, which set rolls X-shape, can stably produce ultrathin products. Various types of mills for nonferrous materials such as hot rolling mills, cold rolling mills and foil rolling mills are available.
Stepping cylinder
The stepping cylinder is a positioning cylinder with a built-in mechanical feedback function, and it controls precisely the speed and the position by electrical pulse signals.

Heat / Surface Treatment Equipment
After the first vacuum heat treatment furnace was installed in Japan for the aerospace field by IHI, heat treatment business has expanded in Japan by the synergy with industrial furnace technology, reaching into various industries such as automobile and construction equipment. Having core heat treatment technology, IHI has spread its heat treatment business into various fields by expanding its menu to the fields of high-temperature, high-pressure, and surface treatment. IHI is now selling various heat treatment equipment, such as high-pressure sintering furnaces, hot presses, high-refinement furnaces, vacuum carburizing furnaces, and vacuum vapor solvent degreasers, and has even began heat treatment process business itself. The coating machines which apply the latest plasma technology provides coating for ; improvement of anti-scratch performance for decoration, extension of life and improvement of productivity of tools, and low friction and anti-abrasion performance for automobile engine parts.
MSCoating(Micro Spark Coating) is a revolutionary coating technology that forms high quality film coating on the material by electro-discharging process using special electrodes, enhancing the abrasion and corrosion resistance of the material. It is starting to be applied and used in IHI's aircraft engine parts and other applications.
Vacuum heat treatment furnace
Various vacuum heat treatment furnaces perform various heat treatments on metals, including hardening and tempering.
Vacuum carburizing furnace
The vacuum carburizing furnace is a new process furnace that can provide high quality carburizing process with evenness, excellent reproducibility, and clean operating environment.
Vacuum vapor solvent degreaser
The vacuum vapor solvent degreaser is an energy-saving equipment with high safety and regeneration efficiency in which petroleum solvent is used and the boiling point is maintained lower than 150 degrees centigrade under reduced pressure.
Hot press
Hot presses mold by heating and pressurizing under vacuum. There are various types to meet different requirements, such as for sintering, multiple-axis expanded joining type, multiple-chamber type, hybrid type, thermal molding type, etc.
High-pressure sintering furnace / degreasing high-pressure sintering furnace
Continuous operation of HIP process of dewaxing / sintering / up to 100 atmospheric pressure is available.
PVD / PACVD coating equipment
PVD / PACVD coating is used for metal, ceramic, or DLC deposition, for decoration, low friction (for automotive parts, etc.), wear-resistance (for cutting tools, molds, dies, etc.), etc. Composite thin films for various technologies (ARC, UBM, HIPIMS+ and DMS) are also available.
MSCoating
Metal or ceramic film that has high adhesion to the material is stably coated. Since the applied heat is low, there are less deformations of the material, preventing cracks, and it is possible to coat particular part without masking.

Environmental Preservation Systems
The environmental preservation system provided by IHI is making a huge contribution to environmental protection and purification.
IHI has provided our customer with engineering, construction, operation and maintenance on waste disposal and sewage treatment that first priority is resource recycling, thermal recycling and material recycling by applying our engineering and experience.
Flue gas treatment facilities(desulfurization unit/denitrator unit)
In flue gas desulfurization plant, sulfur oxide (SOx) from exhaust gases emitted from factories or thermal power plants is absorbed so that byproducts such as calcium sulfate can be recovered. Supported by rich experience with large size flue gas desulfurization plant and power generators such as boilers, IHI has been delivering high performance equipment that can meet the recent, strict emission regulations.
Flue gas denitrification plant uses ammonium(NH3) and a catalyst to decompose nitrogen oxide (NOx) in exhaust gases.
Water Treatment Plant
IHI has supplied Municipal Sewage Treatment Plants worldwide.
We also supplied waste water treatment plant including high speed anaerobic reacter"IC Reacter".

The DU-S.E.M.T. Pielstick medium-speed diesel engine is used as the main engine for large ferries, passenger ships and diesel power plant.
GTL reactor
This is the heart of a Gas-to-Liquids plant that produces clean liquid fuel that emits very little environment polluting substances through change of the characteristics of natural gas.
EO reactor
These are part of the core of monoethylene glycol plants that produce the raw materials for polyester textiles, PET resins, antifreeze, etc.
