IHIMU realizes "IHIMU-CEPS" having superior performance on environmental protection and operational economy.

IHIMU has developed an environmentally-friendly and economically efficient diesel-electric propulsion system called "IHIMU-CRP Electric Propulsion System (IHIMU-CEPS)". The IHIMU-CEPS reduces CO₂, NO_x and SO_x emissions with 4-cycle medium-speed diesel generator engines, and dramatically improves propulsion efficiency by using optimized hull form and adopting the Contra-Rotating Propeller (CRP).
-The vessels with the system achieved notable thermal efficiency improvement compared with conventional vessels.
-Vibration and noise in the accommodation space have decreased as a result of adopting medium speed diesel generator engines in comparison with low-speed engines.
-The maneuvering performance in ship's low speed operation has also improved excellently due to the properties of the electric motor.
Such good results are expected to lead to wider use of the system in not only coastal but also to ocean going shipping.
